We were treated to one of our best presentations at the May meeting. Chris Heavens, W7AMD told the story of his career working for Cable and Wireless, Ltd., a part of British Telecom.
We learned a great deal about telegraph cables under the oceans which allowed worldwide telegraph messages, a system sometimes referred to as the “Victorian Internet.”
The most relevant part (and most interesting to me) was his tales (and slides) about his time working at HF radio stations in the Caribbean. The stations were huge and very impressive. For many of us, that would be a dream career!
