My friend Hank Darlington, K6BSB, recently passed away in Tempe. He was not a member but was a B-17 pilot that I have known for about eight years. His call was K6BSB and he passed this last March at 101 years old.
Hank was a B-17 pilot in World War II whose service included flying air support for the D-Day invasion. He was awarded the Air Medal and several oak leaf clusters.
After the war he became a teacher. And, of course, a ham radio operator, a hobby he pursued for over 80 years. He got his novice license in 1953, becoming KN6BSB.
